Shakespeare Schools Foundation (SSF) is a cultural education charity that uses the unique power of Shakespeare to transform lives. We are delighted that Chivenor school will be part of the flagship project, the Shakespeare Schools Festival, this Autumn term.
Some children from Year 4, going into Year 5, will be going on a thrilling journey over the next few months, from
rehearsing in school with their Teacher-Director, Mrs Jackson, to working with SSF theatre professionals in a performance skills workshop. The Shakespeare production Chivenor school will be doing is the Tempest.
After months of preparation, the children will be onstage performing a 30-minute abridged Shakespeare play in a professional theatre, the old Rep, alongside other local schools. It will be an exhilarating night of theatre that celebrates the community, the casts and the power of Shakespeare’s words.
“SSF inspired me, not to be an actress or a writer, but to continue to learn and toappreciate the fact that something like Shakespearean language can bring people ofdifferent nationalities, ages and abilities together.” Student, London.
Each Autumn nearly 30,000 young people from primary, secondary and special schools across the country unite as part of the world’s largest youth drama festival, raising aspirations and unlocking the potential of students from all backgrounds.
Mrs Jackson will be holiding auditions in the next couple of weeks, if you child is interested they must be able to go to the final performance on the evening of 1st November.
