Year 1 had the most amazing afternoon where they learned how to get wool from sheep and all of the processes it goes through (washing, carding, dying and spinning) to get it ready to use to make clothes. They learned about the different tools that are used (bobbins, spinning wheels, carders, Lazy Kate ā and our favourite, the Niddy Noddy!) Mrs W demonstrated how to spin using not only the spinning wheel but also the drop spindle (This was very tricky as the teachers found out!) and that teasels were used to ācardā wool (get the mucky bits out) before the paddles were invented. A massive thank you to Mrs W for the fantastic learning experience.
